CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
The Fair Trading Commission is seeking to recruit individuals to fill the following positions:-
1. Electricity Analyst - Temporary
This position provides an excellent opportunity for an individual who wants to use his/her skills to provide
guidance for the regulation and growth of the Barbados electricity sector.
The Electricity Analyst will be required to:-
▪ Monitor and assess current trends in the electricity;
▪ Perform analyses of the financial and technical performance of the regulated service provider;
▪ Review resource plans, as well as address matters related to the reform of the sector through the
incorporation of renewable energy;
▪ Address the sector’s consumer complaints.
The successful candidate should:-
▪ Hold a postgraduate qualification in economics, finance, electrical or mechanical engineering or other
relevant discipline;
▪ Be familiar with regulatory policies and procedures and have a working knowledge of the
developments within the electricity sector;
▪ Possess strong analytical, leadership, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills;
▪ Have at least five years’ work experience.
Knowledge of renewable energy principles, or experience gained in a regulatory agency would be an asset.
2. Research Officer/Assistant - Temporary
The position of Research Officer/Assistant is an excellent opportunity for an individual who enjoys research
and who has the requisite skills to conduct research, using a variety of methodologies.
The Research Officer/Assistant will report to the Director of Utility Regulation and will engage in conducting
research and preparing investigative reports.
The successful candidate will be required to:
▪ Conduct research on matters related to the regulated entities;
▪ Engage in research on current issues and trends;
▪ Prepare reports, detailing research findings for the Commission.
Applicants should:
▪ Hold a Bachelors’ degree in economics, management or a relevant discipline;
▪ Possess strong communication, interpersonal and organisational skills;
▪ Be familiar with Microsoft Office suite and statistical packages for data analysis.
▪ Be willing to work as part of a team.
Familiarity with or experience gained in a research-oriented environment would be an asset.
The successful candidates will report to the Director of Utility Regulation.
