FAIR TRADING COMMISSION PUBLIC NOTICE EXTENSION OF THE PRICE CAP PLAN

The Fair Trading Commission (the Commission), the regulator of domestic and international telecommunications services, is seeking public input into the extension to March 31, 2016, of the current Price Cap Plan 2012 for Cable & Wireless Co. Ltd., under the existing terms which govern the adjustment of rates for regulated domestic and international services.

On March 29, 2012, the Commission issued its Decision on the current Price Cap Plan 2012, effective for the period April 1, 2012 to March 31, 2015. Currently, the Commission is in the process of conducting a study of the telecommunication market in Barbados, which will be beneficial in the Review of the Price Cap Plan 2012. In view of recent developments, the time-frame for the completion of the study and other activities identified in the Price Cap Plan Compliance Rules and Procedures dated May 22, 2012, which must be completed prior to the end of the Price Cap Plan 2012, an extension to March 31, 2016, is considered desirable.

Pursuant to section 4(4) of the Fair Trading Commission Act CAP 326B of the Laws of Barbados, the Commission would like to receive the comments of all service providers, representatives of consumer interest groups and other parties that have an interest in this matter.
