PUBLIC NOTICE

REVIEW OF ENERGY STORAGE FRAMEWORKS AND TARIFFS

On June 28, 2023, the Fair Trading Commission (“the Commission”) issued its Decision on Energy Storage Framework and Tariffs, Document No.: FTCUR/DECEST/2023-03 (“the Decision”). This Decision determined the structure, rates and applicable size categories for a pilot program that would see the roll out and implementation of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) projects in Barbados.

In accordance with the Decision, a review of the Framework and Tariffs will be conducted every two years or sooner if market conditions deem it prudent. The Commission is reviewing the decision and is now seeking public input to determine the appropriate applicable size categories and the cost assumptions which underpin the approved rates. The Commission views this framework as a critical component in facilitating the implementation of BESS assets, which are instrumental in advancing the development of renewable energy generation in Barbados.

As part of this evaluation process, and pursuant to section 4(4) of the Fair Trading Commission Act, CAP. 326B of the Laws of Barbados the Commission will consider written comments from interested parties on the matters outlined in the consultation document.
