CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
The Fair Trading Commission is seeking to recruit individuals to fill the following positions:-
1. Director of Utility Regulation
The Director of Utility Regulation has responsibility for managing the strategic goal of ensuring the efficient and
safe provision of regulated utility services and will be required to provide leadership to a team of professional staff.
This position reports to the Chief Executive Officer.
Responsibilities include:
- Advising Commission panels on the determination of utility regulation matters;
- The administration and enforcement of legislation pertaining to utility regulation and the regulated utility
(electricity, water and telecommunications) services;

Development, implementation and monitoring of regulatory mechanisms for regulated utility services;
- Consulting with stakeholders in the sector to develop appropriate regulatory procedures to promote the
provision of efficient utility services;
- Evaluation and analysis of developments within the sectors in order to inform on any needed revisions of
regulatory practices;
- Collaborating with local, regional and international regulators, regulatory associations and other entities to
advance the work of the Commission; and
- Assisting the Commission in its analysis and consideration of applications for utility rate adjustments.
Required Qualifications:-

A postgraduate qualification in Economics, Finance, Accounting, Engineering or Business Administration
and at least five years' relevant experience.
Other Requirements:-
- Demonstrated ability to lead a team and a track record for high quality output;
- Strong communication, leadership and interpersonal skills;
- Evidence of a solid understanding of customer service requirements and the ability to translate goals into results;
- Knowledge of the utility sector and of developments in utility regulation regionally and internationally;
- Experience in project management; and
- Be able to function efficiently in a fast paced environment.
Previous experience gained through association with an enforcement or regulatory agency, formal regulatory
training, and experience working with donor agencies are desirable attributes.
2. Research/Administrative Assistant
The Research/Administrative Assistant will report to the General Legal Counsel and will be responsible for
providing research and administrative support required to facilitate the effective functioning of the Legal
Department.
The successful candidate should:-

Hold a professional qualification such as PSC, APS or CPS and have at least three years' experience;
Hold a Paralegal Certification;
- Be proficient in Microsoft Office;
- Have excellent interpersonal, organisational, written and oral communication skills;
- Be able to undertake legal research and prepare memoranda;Be able to review documents, draft briefs and correspondence on routine legal matters; and
- Be able to demonstrate use of initiative and function in a fast paced environment.
Previous experience gained in a Legal environment would be an asset.
