This is needed to minimise the financial impact of bad debts incurred by the company through customers who discontinue the service while still owing the company for electricity consumed.

The security deposit is generally required of non residential customers or residential customers that have been delinquent in paying bills. The Security deposit is usually set to cover 3 months of typical electricity usage.
