FAIR TRADING COMMISSION LAUNCHES ENERGY STAKEHOLDER SURVEY

In an effort to learn more about renewable energy (RE) awareness in Barbados and educate persons on how they can introduce RE into their home or business, the Fair Trading Commission has launched an Energy Stakeholder Survey.

The Survey, which is being conducted with support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), seeks to determine the public’s level of awareness with regard to the Barbados National Energy Policy 2019-2030 (BNEP) and the overarching goal to achieve 100 percent RE generation and carbon neutrality. It also aims to evaluate awareness with regard to RE, energy efficiency and how the Feed-in-Tariff programme can contribute to the achievement of the BNEP goal.

The Survey also serves to educate participants, with the provision of critical information related to the BNEP goals, the Feed-in-Tariff programme, fiscal incentives for RE and energy efficiency equipment, solar installers and financial options for installation.

Director of Utility Regulation, Dr. Marsha Atherley-Ikechi, explained that “Barbadians have an opportunity to play an integral part in the transformation of the RE sector of Barbados. We want to ensure that they have a comprehensive understanding of what is involved and how they can directly benefit. This survey allows us to assess any shortcomings in the public’s understanding so that we can address them in order to allow individuals and businesses alike to reap the full benefits and become active participants in this newly democratised energy space”.

The Survey may be accessed at https://bit.ly/3701Gns, or via the Commission’s website, Facebook and Instagram pages.

For more information on the Survey, contact the Commission at 424-0260.
