CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
The Fair Trading Commission is seeking to recruit individuals to fill the following positions:-
1. Chief Economist
The Chief Economist will report to the Director of Fair Competition and will be required to:
- Assist the Director in the planning and organising of the unit’s work plan and other assigned tasks;
- Monitor business conduct to identify opportunities for the enhancement of competition and areas
where breaches are occurring;
- Conduct investigations into allegations of anti-competitive conduct, mergers and acquisitions;
- Supervise the conduct of research necessary for the preparation of matters relating to complaints of
anti-competitive conduct, merger proposals and authorisation applications before the Commission;
- Prepare detailed reports and staff papers on economic issues related to competition policy;
- Work with the Utility Regulation and Consumer Protection divisions in providing economic
interpretation, analysis and advice on issues that obtain in those areas.
The successful candidate should:
- Hold a master’s degree in economics and have at least five years’ relevant experience;
- Be familiar with regulatory policies and procedures and have knowledge of antitrust law;
- Possess a proven track record for high quality economic research and output;
- Have strong communication, leadership and interpersonal skills.
Previous experience in a regulatory agency would be an asset.
2. Electricity Analyst - Temporary
The Electricity Analyst will report to the Director of Utility Regulation and will be required to:
- Assist with monitoring and assessing the technical and financial operations of the regulated electric utility;
- Assist with analysis of the performance of the regulated electric utility;
- Assist with the development and or review of plans for projects of the regulated electric utility relating
to the country’s transition to 100% renewable energy utilisation by 2030.
The successful candidate should:
- Hold a master’s degree in renewable energy management, economics, business, finance, or other relevant discipline;
- Hold a bachelor’s degree in electrical, environmental or mechanical engineering;
- Be familiar with regulatory policies and procedures and have knowledge of developments within the
renewable energy sector;
- Have knowledge of renewable energy technologies.
Experience gained in a regulatory agency or an electricity service provider would be an asset.
